Roman equestrian, nephew of the historian Theophanes of Mytilene and probably son of Cn. P. Macer. Praetor in AD 15. Probably identical with the brother of Pompeia [5] Macrina, who, when threatened with conviction in AD 33, killed himself (Tac. Ann. 6,18,2). Two conventional but finely crafted epigrams, perhaps from the 'Garland' of Philip (Philippus [I.32]), can presumably be attributed to him: a fictional epitaph to the famous hetaera Lais (Anth. Pal. 7,219; cf. Antipater of Sidon 7,218, etc.) and a lament on the ruins of Mycenae (9,28, cf. 9,101-104).
