Notes :Marcus Cocceius Nerva (2), probably grandson of M. Cocceius Nerva (1), was suffect consul and from ce 24curator aquarum (official in charge of the water-supply; see aqueducts). A close friend of *Tiberius, he accompanied him into retirement in 26 but in 33, disgusted (it was said) by Tiberius’ society and handling of the senators’ financial problems of that year, he starved himself to death. A distinguished lawyer, he developed the school founded by M. *Antistius Labeo and later known as Proculian (see masurius sabinus); his son Marcus, father of the emperor *Nerva, also belonged to it.
