Grandson of Herodes [1] the Great (Jos. Ant. Iud. 18, 5,4), only distantly related to the Armenian ruling house, whose male line had died out since T. [5]. After the assassination of Artavasdes [4] IV, Augustus made him king of Armenia (R. Gest. div. Aug. 27), though he could not maintain his position. Afterwards, he lived in Rome and was executed in 36 because of maiestas (Tac. Ann. 6,40).
