    Original Text :καὶ τὴν μὲν Πατρέων καὶ Δυμαίων λεηλασίαν ὁδοῦ πάρεργον ἐποιήσαντο, τὴν δὲ Μεσσήνην ἐμβαλόντες ἐπόρθουν.
     
    Translation :[A]nd after plundering the territories of Patrae and Dyme on their way, they invaded Messenia and ravaged it.

    Remark :motive: Since the plundering of Messenia happened shortly after Messenia had joined the Achaean league, the motive of the Aetolians could possibly be revenge.
