Translation :Both wings having been routed, the vanquished troops retired in every case upon the elephants in the centre, and were there crowded together with them, and from this point on the battle was waged at close quarters, and it was not until the eighth hour that the enemy gave up. Such then, is the account of the battle which the victor himself has given in his letters.

Edition :Plutarch. Plutarch's Lives. with an English Translation by. Bernadotte Perrin. Cambridge, MA. Harvard University Press. London. William Heinemann Ltd. 1919. 7.

Remark :titel: Plutarch probably refers to the eighth hour of the day, not necessarily eight hours of fighting.
long-term consequence: Although Alexander was victorious in this last battle of his, he did not actually conquer Poros' land. Soon after, he turned back with his troops.
