    Original Text :ἄπρακτοι δὲ γενόμενοι ἀπέπλεον: καὶ ἀποβάντες κατά τι τῆς Συρακοσίας καὶ ἁρπαγὴν ποιησάμενοι, καὶ τῶν Συρακοσίων ἱππέων βοηθησάντων καὶ τῶν ψιλῶν τινὰς ἐσκεδασμένους διαφθειράντων, ἀπεκομίσθησαν ἐς Κατάνην.
     
    Translation :Disappointed here, the Athenians now sailed back again, and after landing and plundering on Syracusan territory and losing some stragglers from their light infantry through the coming up of the Syracusan horse, so got back to Catana.

    Remark :perpetrator: The soldiers are Athenian and also from all the Athenian allies (Thuk. 6.43.1). Also from the previous passages it is known, that these generals particpate in the plunder (Thuk. 6.8.2 and 6.52.1 "the Athenians accordingly sailed along shore with all their armament").
    longtermconsequence: The Syracusan cavalry attacks the plunderers (Thuk. 6.52.2).
