Translation :While Pharnabazus was conducting this party, the Athenians were besieging Byzantium; they had built a stockade around the city, and were attacking its wall with missiles from a distance and by close assault.

Remark :perpetrator: The Athenian army of Alcibiades is probably mixed in its origion: Besides Attic/Athenian the soldiers have to be also Chersonesians and Thracian as mentioned in 1.3.10. The involvment of Alcibiades in this siege can be found in Xen. Hell. 1.3.20.
victim: The soldiers of Clearchus are some Laconian Perioeci and a few emancipated Helots (Xen. Hell. 1.3.16). The involvement of Cydon, Ariston, Anaxicrates, Lycurgus and Anaxilaus is known by Xen. Hell. 1.3.18. The involvement of the other victims can be found in Xen. Hell. 1.3.15.
longtermconsequence: Since nothing could be achieved by the siege, the Athenians capture the city by betrayal later on and Helixus, Coeratadas and all their troops surrender themselves and become prisoners (Xen. Hell. 1.3.16-22).
Notes :Weapon: As mentioned in the title missiles are used as weapons during the siege.
