Translation :They also made an expedition against Abydus; and Pharnabazus, who came to its aid with a large force of cavalry, was defeated in battle and put to flight. And Alcibiades pursued him with the Athenian cavalry and one hundred and twenty of the hoplites, under the command of Menander, until darkness covered the retreat.

Remark :perpetrator: Menander is not equal in rank with Alcibiades and Thrasyllos, but second in command (see also in Xen. Hell. 1.2.16).
victim: Origin: The victims are also the people of Abydus.
longtermconsequence: Pharnabazus and his soldiers must flee after their defeat (see also in Xen. Hell. 1.2.16). And as a result of this expedition the Athenian soldiers, who were divided before (Xen. Hell. 1.2.15), came together of their own accord and fraternized with each other (Xen. Hell. 1.2.17).
